Your Voice

Voice lessons will bring many benefits to a student's life. The act of singing is known to relax and reduce stress. Also since there is no physical instrument to hold, the act of singing can be very personal. Therefore, learning to sing in front of an audience can be a great confidence builder as well! Voice lessons will give the student the chance to find your own personal sound and a way to express yourself like no other instrument can! 

Age to Start Voice Lessons

You can never be too young to begin your training as a musician. Many teachers have different ideas as to what age is appropriate, but generally 12 years of age is a good place to begin serious Voice lessons. It is possible to start Voice lessons at a much younger age, but the lessons would focus more on basic musicianship skills and vocal breathing techniques in order to prepare a student for serious training as their body and voice matures. 

We use the term 'voice training' to describe the coaching given to improve people's vocal performance. This training might deal with accents, making presentations more vocally powerful, public speaking, enunciation, elocution. Many people are gifted with natural singing ability, but whether you want to become a professional entertainer, a casual performer, or sing for fun, it is important to learn how protect your best asset and to increase it's potential.

• Are you in Tune with the music - your notes should match the song.
• Do you struggle to reach the notes - pick an easy song to start with.
• Are you gasping for air between phrases - learn to breath in the "rests" between phrases
• Are you breathing correctly? - you should not be short of breath is your voice weak or strong - shouting is NOT Singing!!

   Vocal scales and other exercises will help to expand your knowledge and improve your abilities.
